How many hoodies? The short answer
For most people, the answer to how many hoodies they need is two or three. One mid-weight pullover for everyday wear, one heavier piece for cold mornings and travel, and, if you like variety, a zip for layering. More than that and you are likely rotating favourites while the rest sit folded. Start with one, add a second when you notice yourself wearing the same one too often, and stop when your rotation feels easy.
How many hoodies is right for you depends on where you live, how many cool days you get, and how often you wash. Here is a simple way to work it out, with real pieces and prices so you can see what each step costs.

Start from your weather, not from a number
A hoodie earns its place on days that are cool enough to need it. Count them honestly before you decide how many hoodies to own.
- Few cool days a year (much of coastal and southern India): one hoodie is usually enough. It comes out for air-conditioned rooms, late evenings and rain.
- A real winter for two to three months (many cities in the north, and hill towns): two hoodies make sense, one for daily wear and one heavier.
- Cold mornings, long winters, or you travel often: three gives you a proper rotation.
If you are not sure how many hoodies your weather calls for, look at last winter. How many times did you reach for a hoodie? If the answer is around twice a week, one hoodie will feel worn out fast, and two will last far longer. Our note on what to wear in Bengaluru, Delhi and Pune helps with the local picture.
The one-hoodie wardrobe
If the answer to how many hoodies is one, make it the plain, mid-weight kind that goes with everything. The ORIGINAL Hoodie (₹1,299) is a 300 GSM brushed cotton fleece hoodie with a lined hood and front pouch pocket, in a unisex regular fit. It comes in all six of our permanent colours: Noor Black, Rui White, Agni Red, Neel Blue, Arav Green and Gulabi Pink. For a first hoodie, Noor Black or Neel Blue tend to be the easiest to pair with.
A second easy option is the CORE Pullover Hoodie (₹1,249), a soft terry pullover with a clean hood and pouch pocket, in Rui White, Noor Black and Neel Blue. Terry has a looped inside and a different feel from brushed fleece, so it is worth knowing which you prefer.

The two-hoodie wardrobe
If your answer to how many hoodies is two, they work best when they do different jobs. Think of one as your default and the other as your cold-weather layer, and choose different weights or different colours.
| Role | Piece | Colour idea | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Everyday | CORE Pullover Hoodie | Noor Black | ₹1,249 |
| Cooler days | ORIGINAL Hoodie (300 GSM) | Neel Blue | ₹1,299 |
| Total | ₹2,548 | ||
Spread over a typical year, two hoodies worn often will cost you far less per wear than one hoodie worn until it gives up. We work through that arithmetic in the cost per wear guide.
The three-hoodie wardrobe
Three is the top of how many hoodies most people need, so add a third only when you have a clear job for it. Good reasons are real cold, frequent travel, or wanting something to open and close over a tee.
The ORIGINAL Zip Hoodie (₹1,799) is a 400 GSM brushed-fleece full-zip hoodie in 90% cotton, with ribbed cuffs and hem, in a unisex regular fit. It comes in Noor Black and Rui White. That is the heaviest of our Solids hoodies by description. If you prefer a roomier fit, the ARCHIVE Oversized Hoodie (₹1,499) is a heavy, roomy hoodie with dropped shoulders, a double-layer hood and a kangaroo pocket, in Gulabi Pink, Arav Green, Neel Blue, Noor Black and Rui White.

A sample three-hoodie set: CORE Pullover Hoodie in Noor Black (₹1,249), ORIGINAL Hoodie in Neel Blue (₹1,299) and ORIGINAL Zip Hoodie in Rui White (₹1,799). The total is ₹4,347.
Do you need a cropped one?
Only if you already wear high-waisted bottoms and like the shape. The ORIGINAL Cropped Hoodie (₹1,049) is the ORIGINAL hoodie cropped to the waist, in heavy, soft fleece, in Noor Black and Gulabi Pink. It is a style choice, and it does not count towards how many hoodies you need for warmth.
Fleece, terry and weight: what changes between hoodies
Two hoodies of the same size can feel very different. Brushed fleece has a soft, fuzzy inside and tends to feel cosy at once. Terry has small loops inside, feels a little cooler and is often easier to wear across seasons. GSM, which is grams per square metre of fabric, is a rough guide to weight: 300 GSM is a solid mid-weight, and 400 GSM is properly heavy.
Heavier is not automatically better. If you feel warm easily, a heavy hoodie will sit in the cupboard most of the year. Choose the weight you will really wear, and use the ORIGINAL Zip at 400 GSM only if your cold days truly need it. Our hoodie GSM guide explains the numbers in more detail.
Fit and colour: the quiet deciders
Two hoodies in the same fit and the same colour are close to one hoodie. A better pair changes one thing: either the fit (a regular one and a roomier one) or the colour (a dark one and a light one). If you already own dark trousers and sneakers, a Rui White or Neel Blue hoodie freshens the set. If your wardrobe is mostly light, Noor Black anchors it. Either way, before you add to how many hoodies you own, each new one should work with at least five things you already have.
Signs you own too many
- You could not name what each one is for.
- You wear the same one every time, regardless of weather.
- Two of them are nearly the same colour and weight.
- One has been in a drawer for more than a season.
If two match, you already know how many hoodies is too many: keep the one you reach for and let the other go, ideally to someone who will wear it.
Signs you need another
- Your only hoodie is in the wash on the day you want it.
- It is starting to lose shape because it is worn every day.
- You are cold in it on your coldest days, or too warm in it on mild ones.
- You want a different colour to balance the rest of your clothes. A six-colour system makes this easy; see our six colour wardrobe system.
Making them last
How you treat a hoodie decides how many hoodies you need. Wash inside out, cool, and dry in shade. Skip the hot dryer. Rotate two hoodies and each rests between wears, which usually keeps fleece softer for longer. Our guide on how to wash a hoodie has the full routine.
The quick rule
So, how many hoodies? One for mild climates. Two for most cities with a proper cool season. Three if the cold is long or you travel. Buy the next one only when you can say what job it does. That habit keeps a wardrobe small and every piece in use.
FAQs
Is one hoodie enough?
For many people in mild climates, one well-made hoodie covers most of the year. If you wear it several days a week, a second lets you wash one while wearing the other.
How many hoodies does a person in Bengaluru or Pune need?
Two is a comfortable number for most: one mid-weight for everyday use and one heavier for cold mornings and travel. Local weather varies, so adjust to how many cool days you actually get.
Should my hoodies be the same colour?
They do not need to be. A mix of Noor Black and Neel Blue, or Noor Black and Rui White, keeps each one useful with the rest of your clothes and lets you rotate without repeating.
When do I need a zip hoodie instead of a pullover?
A zip is handy if you layer over a tee often, or want to open it indoors without pulling it over your head. A pullover is simpler and often warmer at the chest.
