What woven satin is, and what to expect
Satin is a weave, not a fibre. It is made so that the yarns float across the surface, which gives the fabric a smooth face and a soft shine. Woven satin drapes in flowing lines, catches light at the folds, and feels cool and slippery against the skin. It also creases easily. Once you know those three habits, it is simple to wear and care for.
Two EKVAAR pieces use it: the EASE Kaftan in Solids and the Original Stole in Origins. Same fabric family, two very different jobs.

The three habits of woven satin
1. Drape
Drape is how a fabric hangs and moves under its own weight. Satin is light and smooth, so it falls in soft, fluid lines and swings when you walk. It does not stand away from the body like a stiff cotton would. That is why it works well for loose pieces like a kaftan or a stole: the fabric does the shaping for you.
2. Sheen
The float weave reflects light. In a dark colour like Noor Black, the sheen shows as soft highlights along the folds and shoulders. In Rui White, it looks like a gentle glow. The sheen changes with the light around you: strong under a lamp or in direct sun, calm in shade. It is a quiet shine, not a glitter.
3. Creasing
The same smooth surface that catches light also shows marks. A tight fold or a long time in a packed bag can leave lines. The good news is that satin usually relaxes when you hang it or steam it lightly. Plan for a few minutes of smoothing before you wear it, and the creases stop being a worry.

The EASE Kaftan
The EASE Kaftan is a loose, free-size kaftan in soft woven satin, with a V-neck, flutter sleeves and a hidden adjustable belt. It is priced at ₹1,149 and comes in Noor Black and Rui White. The idea is simple: loose, light and free.
How it behaves on the body
- Loose and airy. The cut leaves room around the body, so air moves through, which is helpful in warm weather.
- Flutter sleeves. The sleeves move as you do, which is the satin drape at work.
- Adjustable belt. The belt is hidden, and you can pull it in when you want a defined waist, or leave it loose for a straight fall.
- Free size. One size is designed to work across a range of bodies, so check the size guide on the product page for its measurements.

The Original Stole
The Original Stole is a 20 × 70 inch stole in lightweight poly-woven satin, printed with the EKVAAR monogram over a black-to-grey gradient. It costs ₹499 and comes in Noor Black. At 70 inches long, it has enough length to wrap, drape or knot.

How it behaves
Lightweight woven satin gives a stole a soft fall. It will slip a little when draped over the shoulders, which is part of its charm, and it can be knotted or looped when you want it to stay. Because it is light, it packs small, but see the notes below on creasing. The gradient shifts as the fabric folds, so the same stole looks different each time you wear it. Ideas for styling are in How to Style a Stole.
Wearing woven satin well
- Pair it with matte fabrics. A satin kaftan next to a cotton tee or plain trousers looks balanced. Satin on satin can be too much.
- Keep accessories simple. The fabric already has movement, so you rarely need more.
- Sit and move before you judge. Satin looks different in motion. Wear it for a few minutes and see how it settles.
- Mind rough surfaces. Satin can catch on rough edges, such as unfinished wood, jewellery clasps or velcro. Check your bag and jewellery before you go out.
Caring for woven satin
Check the care label on your piece first, as it is the most reliable guide. In general, gentle handling suits satin best: wash on a gentle setting or by hand, avoid wringing, and dry in shade. Wringing and twisting can leave hard creases.
Smoothing creases
Hang the piece in a steamy bathroom, or use a steamer held a little away from the cloth. If you iron, use low heat, keep a thin cloth between the iron and the fabric, and iron on the reverse side. High heat can damage the surface of satin. If you are unsure, test a small hidden area first.
Storing it
Hang the kaftan on a padded hanger. Roll the stole loosely, or fold it once and lay it flat, instead of pressing it into a tight square. For travel, roll each piece instead of folding it, and it will come out smoother.
Is woven satin right for you?
Choose it if you like clothes that move, if you want something light for warm days, or if you want a piece that looks dressed up with very little effort. Skip it if you dislike any creasing at all, or if you want a fabric with structure. It is a soft, flowing cloth, and it is at its best when you let it be one.
Woven satin against other fabrics you may own
It helps to compare woven satin to cloths you already know. Cotton is matte, breathable and holds a crease in a firm way; satin is smooth, glossy and creases in soft lines. Jersey stretches to follow your body; woven satin does not stretch much, so the cut of the garment matters more. That is why a kaftan is a good use for it: the shape is loose by design, and the fabric only has to fall well.
If you wear satin next to a cotton tee, notice how the two textures work together. The matte cotton grounds the outfit, and the satin adds a little life. It is a simple way to look considered without adding anything to the outfit.
Where to wear each piece
- The kaftan: at home, on holiday, for a relaxed dinner, or as a light cover over a swimsuit or a tee and shorts.
- The stole: over a plain tee for an evening out, around the neck on a cool morning, or loosely knotted on a bag strap.
FAQs
Does woven satin crease easily?
Satin can show creases, especially when folded tightly or packed for a long time. Hanging it, or rolling it loosely, keeps it smooth. Light steaming from a distance usually relaxes marks.
Is satin hot to wear in Indian weather?
A loose piece like the EASE Kaftan lets air move around the body, which helps. A smooth, light fabric does not cling the way some knits can. It is not a heavy cloth.
What is the Original Stole made of?
The Original Stole is a 20 × 70 inch stole in lightweight poly-woven satin, printed with the EKVAAR monogram over a black-to-grey gradient.
What colours does the EASE Kaftan come in?
The EASE Kaftan comes in Noor Black and Rui White. It is a free-size piece, with a hidden adjustable belt.
