Some patterns travel the world and lose their address along the way. The PALAYAKAT sweatshirt gives one back. It is named after Palayakat, the old Tamil name of Pulicat, the coastal town where the checked cloth the world calls Madras began. The check is drawn new for EKVAAR and printed edge to edge, so the whole sweatshirt carries the story.

The check is built from Neel Blue bands with Agni Red and Arav Green lines on a Rui White ground, printed all over, edge to edge. Madras is the name the world gave to this checked cloth, and this design is our own reading of that tradition, drawn new rather than copied. To be clear about how it is made: it is a printed check, not a woven one.
The PALAYAKAT sweatshirt is made from poly brushed fleece at 240 GSM. The brushed inside feels soft and warm, while the smooth outside carries the all-over print cleanly. At 240 GSM it is a comfortable mid-weight for cool evenings, air-conditioned offices and winter travel.
The cut is a unisex regular fit: neat enough to wear over a tee, relaxed enough for all day. Sizes run from S to 5XL, a wide range that covers a lot of different bodies. Our size guide lists chest and length for each size, so you can compare with a sweatshirt you already own.

The PALAYAKAT sweatshirt comes in one colourway: a Rui White base with Neel Blue bands and fine Agni Red and Arav Green lines. The white ground keeps it fresh and light, while the three colours give the check its rhythm. It belongs to the Layers house of the EKVAAR House of Originals.
Because the check is busy, keep everything else calm. Stone chinos or ivory trousers with suede loafers or white sneakers is the classic pairing, and accessories should stay minimal. Wear it over a white tee such as the CORE crew tee, letting a little white show at the neck. For another check from the House of Originals, look at the CHARKHANA sweatshirt.

The PALAYAKAT sweatshirt is unisex and made for people who like pattern with a story behind it. It suits a weekend brunch, a coastal holiday, a casual Friday or a family visit, and it is a good conversation starter for anyone who knows the Madras check but not where it came from.
Checks have been worn for generations because they are easy to live with. The grid gives a garment structure, the colours give it warmth, and a light ground keeps it from feeling heavy. A good check looks right in a college photo and twenty years later, which is exactly the kind of all-time piece a wardrobe needs.
Wash it inside out in cold water and iron on low heat. Turning it inside out protects the printed surface, so the PALAYAKAT sweatshirt keeps its colours clear.
Every PALAYAKAT sweatshirt is made in India only after you reserve it. You choose your size, and it is made for you, with no unsold stock behind it. Reserve yours above.
